The Vietnam Microfinance Working Group (VMFWG) was established as a forum for microfinance practitioners to share knowledge and ideas to overcome the key challenges of the sector. As the peak industry body, the VMFWG helps strengthen the sector’s voice in policy-making. Founded in 2004 as an informal organization under the NGO Resource Centre – VUFO, VMFWG has an open policy to all individuals and organizations who are interested in the microfinance sector in Vietnam. In September 2011, the VMFWG officially became a Center under the Vietnam Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (VINASME).

As the VMFWG has accomplished on the basic of a Strategic and Business Plan for the period of 2007 – 2013, on March, 2014, VMFWG has updated this plan and look ahead to determine the strategic direction, main work areas and services, and financial resources for the next 5-year period of 2014 -2019 with support from ADA and IFC organization as progress is being made to develop into an independent and sustainable Association which is more representative and professional legal structure that will be better able to serve its prospective membership of Good Practice Microfinance Programs in Viet Nam

The Plan presents an updated Strategy for the Network for 2014-2019 including its vision, mission, values and an analysis of strengths, weaknesses, threats, and opportunities and general strategic position in the market. Based on this Strategy, key objectives were formulated and compiled into a 3-year operational business (action) plan with outcomes (results), activities, indicators of success, and a financing plan.
